Obamacare special open enrollments in 2018- individual/Family insurance

Starting on December 15  2017, you need to have a special life event to enroll on a new Obamacare insurance in 2018. The 2019 open enrollment will start in November 2018.  President Trump has been working on the repeal and replace of Obamacare.

At Shkedia Financial Services we have been helping US citizens, seniors citizens, Green Card holders, H1B, L1, new immigrants, foreign nationals, and other work authorization holders who live and conduct business in the US.

Check Obamacare's subsidy eligibility, still in effect but may  to be repealed and replaced by president Trump

You are welcome to ask for a quote, apply on-line or contact us for a free and confidential review of your current plan or to check for new health insurance coverage.

The Special Open Enrollments dates are limited. In most cases you have 60 days from the triggering event to apply. The most common special open enrollments are:

  1. If you have a newborn child the family may apply within 60 days of the birth on a new health insurance. The child may be covered back from the date of birth.
  2. Marriage triggers 60 days of special open enrollment. The effective date of the new coverage depends on the date of the application.
  3. Divorce (only if losing existing coverage as a result) triggers 60 days of special open enrollment. The effective date of the new coverage depends on the date of the application.
  4. Turning age 26 triggers 60 days of special open enrollment for the individual.
  5. Losing group health insurance triggers 60 days of special open enrollment for the employee and / or the dependent family members. It is important to consult with an insurance  broker especially  if COBRA is offered by the previous employer. Accepting COBRA may eliminate the eligibility to apply for a new individual/family Obamacare insurance.
  6. Relocating permanently from a state to another state or in certain service areas within the same state triggers 60 days of special open enrollment.
  7. Gaining immigration status (mainly Green Card or US citizenship) triggers 60 days of special open enrollment
  8. Losing Medicaid or subsidy eligibility triggers 60 days of special open enrollment
  9. For plans purchased on a states' insurance exchanges or healthcare.gov, a significant income change may require to select a new plan
  10. Death in the family triggers 60 days of special open enrollment
  11. Lost of coverage due to non payment is not considered a qualified life event, and cannot be used to re-enroll on a new health insurance plan
